I used to get emails all the time from friends, colleagues, family members, well-knowns in Western New York and the midwest, Twitter buds, and total strangers patting me on the back for my daily collection of writing that made people chuckle. Once my blog was featured on buffalorising.com, a beautiful little gift I discovered after making a 14 hour drive home after living in Nova Scotia for a year. (Long story!)
After a while, it became too much of a burden. I found less interest writing about Paris Hilton and increased awareness about having an actual *life*, having babies, buying a house, and starting a business. I didn’t know where or how The DS could fit in, especially seeing as the blog boom of the early 2010s seem to be dwindling and drying up quickly. People stopped having the attention span for a 300-word blog about the best cocktail recipes for gin-haters. Now people wanted GRAPHICS and short form video?! Ugh. I wanted nothing to do with it.
Today, I am here for two reasons.
- To break the wheel. To bust genres. To do something just for me (and any other kind soul who wants to come along for the ride). I love that blogs are still not cool and that’s why I want to do one again.
This is MY place for art. Not the type of art that sells– the guilty pleasure stuff you’re drawn to in the bathroom of a wine bar. - My last post. In 2018, trying to squeeze inspiration out of an exhausted mind, caring for a 1-year old, I wrote about REINVENTION. As I re-read the post, I actually have no idea what the hell I’m talking about, but it seems to be my last attempt to reinvent the blog- my first baby- because I didn’t want to let it go. Eventually, I did and it stung a little.
Fast forward through 2 more pregnancies, a worldwide pandemic, marital strife, financial ups and downs, leaving my corporate job, family health crises and what greeted me as I began to explore places to dump my words? REINVENTION.
That was my sign. And yes, I did cry a little when I saw it.
I thought I had lost the blog and all the words I’d written in it. But it was still there, safe and sound. The final post was where I left off, and today, REINVENTION is the name of my signature brand build program. You can’t make this stuff up.
So we are here to have fun. We’re here to bust up some stuff. We’re here because we pay attention to signs. And we’re here because it’s fate.
