How scared were you when you saw the title? Okay, so I didn’t mean the C-word, but I was referring to one just as nasty, just as dirty. It’s one I find offensive sometimes, and I prefer not to talk about it very often. It makes me uncomfortable, and I know I’m not the only one. Thankfully, help has arrived for people like myself.
It’s coupons. Friggin’ coupons. I hate them. I know they’re good for me, but I don’t care. I accept them from my mom knowing full well they will end up scrunched up in my wallet until I can’t close it anymore and then removed and thrown out. Sometimes I do intend to use them but miss the expiration date by 2 days. Then there are “you just purchased $75 worth of pants and now you get to COME BACK in 3.5 weeks to buy more and save $10 but only from non-clearance items” coupons. Or manufacturers coupons for Crest Whitestrips where you can save $7 but only on the most expensive ones with the 5 count, and you laugh and buy the bottom-of-the-line 20-count Whitestrips for $15 less. So yeah, you can see the setbacks of coupons.
Now, there are those crazy coupon people out there. God bless them. I don’t know how they do it. Of all the things to get fired up about in life, they chose coupons. To each, his own.
The reason I’m bringing it up now is because- you are never going to believe this- we HAVE TO BE ON A BUDGET BUT FOR REAL THIS TIME. It’s serious. I need stuff. Luckily, I’m (the last person in the world) finding out about cool online and app-based coupons. Because if it’s not already on my phone, it’s just not going to happen.
Cartwheel by Target – This is perhaps the most embarrassing one for me on a personal level. Recently, one of my well-dressed colleagues was talking about Cartwheel and what she bought at Target the day before. I had no idea what she was talking about. This could change my life, and it could change yours if you are not wired for coupons or have recently immigrated to the United States from a third world country. (Welcome!) It’s in your App Store!
City Dining Cards – If you have an iPhone, you can have the City Dining Cards app on your phone, for your city. Mostly if you live in Buffalo or Baltimore. There might be other cities you can pick, but I didn’t try that hard to look into it. It’s up to you. If you don’t have an iPhone, I don’t know what to tell you. The app will save you money on food, activities, events and goodies, and sometimes you even get freebies! Shut. Up.
RetailMeNot.com – This one I have actually used before in a desperate attempt to find free shipping on things during online shopping sprees. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Again, if it means I can spend 10 minutes or less finding a discount, I can handle that.
