Happy New Year! Let’s Do Some Detox.

For as much as I look forward to the holidays and all of the indulgences that are deemed acceptable during them, it only takes about 2 days for me to start to yearn for the detox period.  My body cries out for mercy.  That’s why I was grateful when my cousin brought over her “New Year’s gift” to me, a baggie full of cut cucumber, lemon, and lime.  “Add this to a few liters of water, let it sit over night, and drink the entire thing the next day,” she advised.  So I sit here, taking in the Outback Bowl (GO BLUE!), sipping on my detox blend, starting to feel more like myself.  It got me thinking about some of the other detox plans I’ve come across recently as I plan for a healthier 2013.

One I’ve been meaning to try is from good old Dr. Oz.  I caught his 3-day juice cleanse on an episode about a month ago and have been intrigued ever since.  I am not a person that can go very long without consuming actual food, but his complete plan of fresh juices, teas, and vitamins sounds like something even I could tolerate for 3 days.  I am also kind of obsessed with my new juicer, so that strokes the intrigue.  Get started here.

For great all-around detoxing tips that don’t require limiting yourself to liquid dinners, read this entry from the team at Food Matters.  They give 4 simple tips that seem pretty obvious, but let’s face it, we all need to be reminded!  Along those same lines is a great article from Traci Mitchell with realistic tips to get you started back down the path to body balance.  Detox without dieting?  Sign me up.

I’m willing to bet that if you simply get back to your “work week” routine, and maybe add this zinger to your morning or lunch for the next week, you’ll have less trouble sliding back into your skinny jeans.  Try this smoothie from sagerecipes.com.

When all is said and done, you’ll feel much better after you get moving again.  Believe me, I know how hard it is to make it to your first post- holiday workout.  Ease in with this living room friendly yoga detox.  Thank me in the morning! 🙂
