Being Lazy By Grilling Once, Growing Your Own Celery, and Not Caring About the Billboard Music Awards

Did anyone watch the Billboard Music Awards last night?  Does anyone even care?

Billboard Music Awards 2013 Best and Worst Moments (Idolator) – If it’s not hosted by Ricky Gervais, an event with elaborate gowns or celebrities drinking at tables, it’s not really worth my time, generally.  I am excited for Christina Aguilera’s slim down, though.  I am a sucker for weight loss success stories.

Jealous.

MONDAY HELPINGS: Today flew by thanks to being productive.  What a novel concept.  Despite all my successes (a run at 6AM, booking flights to Italy, surviving the grocery store,) I still found a few items I’d like to do a rant about in the upcoming days.  It’s been a while since I did a “monthly rant.”  Topics may include: the impossible task of finding flattering clothing for women with boobs and/or hips in 2013, why I find many female stand-up comediennes obnoxious, the increase of Canadian geese in America, etc.  Stay tuned.  I’m getting perturbed left and right these days.

Grill Once, Eat All Week (Weight Watchers) – I got this in my inbox today and it served as a nice reminder for what I should be doing each week, which is making a plan and actually following through with it.  Instead, my dinners usually occur at 5:03PM and consist of hummus, a sugar free pudding, and some cucumbers.  Not exactly a well-rounded feast.  Hand the nearest guy some meat, and let him go to town.  You’ll be set for a while.

Growing Celery Indoors: Never Buy Celery Again (17apart) – This blew MY MIND.  I saw it on a friend’s Instagram and was shocked to see you literally can grow new celery from the bottom of an old bunch in a matter of days.  With water, only.  Is it bad that this is one of the coolest things I’ve learned in a while?

SNL Bids Farewell to Bill Hader With a Stefon Wedding (Rolling Stone) - I am a little bummed I missed it, but only half believe it was actually a “great episode,” as they are saying it was.  Poor SNL.  I just don’t know what to say about them these days…

Pairings//Beer + Chocolate = Love (BeerWestMag) – I saw a mentioning of beer and chocolate pairings somewhere online today and it totally made me go into a period of reflection.  Chocolate and wine- sure.  But beer and chocolate?  What?  Okay.  I’ll do it.

Bow Down to Glitter Bombs, Alcoholic Bananas, and Bracketology

I’m sorry.  I can’t help it.  #DoubleFeature:

Snapshot: Beyonce for Shape Magazine April 2013 (The Fashion Bomb Blog) – My lady love is at it again.  Some call it overexposure.  I call it amazeballs.  Tomato/tomahtoe.

Beyonce | I Am : Bow Down/I Been On (iam.beyonce.com) – So when I saw the “bow down” picture posted on Bey’s Facebook and Instagram yesterday, even I thought, “K, that’s a little much.”  I got it in a marketing sense- with the whole “trailer” for her new tour and such, but what I didn’t spend enough time looking at was that it was a link to her new song ‘Bow Down’, which I think I may be in love with, but when it switches to ‘I Been On’, it gets a little weird.  Listen here!

MONDAY HELPINGS:

I woke up with uuber anxiety today, for no particular reason.  I actually had stress dreams about not turning in a high school assignment, one about not having the appropriate gluten free items in my lunch box, and something else rather laughable that I can’t remember now.  I think I have to take my own advice and really get into that meditation tonight!  So without further adieu..

Caffeine: How Much is too Much? (Detroit Free Press) - I wondered this myself today when I went for my 2nd coffee, usually an optional treat, today was a must.

Lindsay Lohan Gets Glitter Bombed Arriving Late to Court (laist.com) – That is probably the most magical thing that has happened to her in years.

8 Things You Can Turn Into Alcohol (Huffington Post) – What?  You’re not ready to think about alcohol again yet?  Don’t be silly.  While you may not have a Monkey Puzzle Tree in your backyard, you can probably find yourself some parsnips or bananas and get to work.

This shhhh is….

March Madness 2013 Predictions (inthecapital.com) - I am less worried about my bracket picks, and more concerned about the fabulous names my brackets will have.  In my group, that is a win- best bracket name.  It may be the only win I have a shot at.

7 Foods to Fight Stress (mindbodygreen.com) - Dark chocolate is number one.  No mistake there.  I know what I’ll be filling my lunch box (both real and dreamed) with tomorrow!

Love In The Lanes, A Detroit Love Affair, And Other Lost Cities

Good morning sunshines!  I mean, afternoon.  I did not leave my bed for an inappropriate amount of time.  It was good.  Although I seem to be sick AGAIN.  Pretty ticked about that.  I emerged and was treated to this gem, which I believe is the pinnacle of good marketing.

ESPN “Love the Lanes” ft. Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey – This. Is. Amazing.  For one, I forgot about this song, and it’s even better in 2013.  Two, I really, really want to watch bowling now.  That’s a first for me.

SATURDAY HELPINGS:

My late start was thanks to another unforgettable night in Detroit including good friends, a concert, and some imbibing.  I’ll share more about that later, but it’s reminding me what a great town Detroit is, despite its never ending struggles.  I find that I relate to it so much more than Ann Arbor.  I like the blue collar feel, I like a bunch of people in one city that are united in the fight and like to commiserate together.  I might have to move closer if I remain in the state of Michigan.

The ‘Other’ Corktown (Eat It Detroit) – My new love affair with Detroit is going to need a lot of guidance.  I don’t know much about the best nooks and crannies (some because I’m scared of them).  It’s not really our fault that we’re conditioned to be scared of what we don’t know, especially a place like the D, but I find I enjoy my adventures there every time.  This is an awesome site with the best of what’s going down in the Motor City.  I will frequent it often.

Death of the Foodstagram (Mashable) - I got this tip from the Eat it Detroit blog, crazy!  Turns out some restaurants are now banning customers from taking food pics.  I get it, it’s kind of rude in the same way it’s rude to sit texting at the dinner table.  I am always embarrassed to do it (thus my hurried, shadowed photography) and feel like it distracts from the general good time flow of a meal, but still- let’s not get our panties in a twist! I still love you NYC.

Top 10 Lost Cities (Listverse) – Relief!  Detroit, nor Buffalo makes this list!  Instead, some of the more exotic lost cities of the world, and I’m pleased to say I’ve visited at least one, and my husband has visited another! (*UPDATE- he informs me he’s visited THREE of these locations.  How dare I!)  The perks of being married to an archaeologist…

How Argyle Became Part of North Carolina’s Jerseys (The Dagger) – Something weird happened to me.  I’ve come to like and want to follow college basketball.  I actually (shh) find it more entertaining than college football.  Maybe it’s the upcoming brackets that gives us something to look forward to or my love of interactive sports games.  Anyways, I recommend this site because it gives you the rankings and info. with a side of fashion, stories about people getting their face stomped on, etc.  I need variety.

Sometimes, You Get What You Need

It’s still January and there are still several weeks of winter ahead (get psyched), with our new year goals still on a roll (hopefully).  Your top sample today is everyone’s favorite, food tweets.  Some people get absolutely enraged when people Tweet/Instagram/Facebook pictures of their food, and others (the normal people), think it’s fun!  I’m one of the latter.

Celebrity Food Pics & Healthy Eats – There is a little food stylist in all of us!

Kourtney K’s breakfast. Don’t act like you’re not hungry.

TUESDAY HELPINGS:  Took a little break from the daily routine today to rest up/get healthy and get a few nagging to-do list items crossed off the list.  It was a welcome break in the nonstop pace of life.  Life is too short to work yourself into a heaped over slump of stress and fatigue.  It’s interesting how one free, sunny day gives back a little perspective, and heals your negative brain.  I am guilty of drinking from the half-empty glass more often than I’d like; my genes are not those of a naturally energetic and peppy person.  I think the majority of Americans have to work at it, which is one reason I’m always intrigued by those who are great at working at it.

How to Live a Miraculous LifeGabby Bernstein is an author I stumbled across thanks to a good friend of mine (one who isn’t normally drinking from the half-empty glass).  I found “Add More -Ing to Your Life” to be a fun and uplifting read, clearly geared at the “under 35″ female crowd.  Sometimes Gabby is a little too uplifting for my likes (sometimes a person’s overzealous zest for life is a turn off, I get it), but overall, her message is great, and she provides you with hand-on ways to get what you want out of life.  I’ll update once I check out her latest book.

How to Be Happier in January Than in July – You will be rolling your eyes at the next few.  One cannot deny that despite whatever feelings you might have in favor of or against Oprah, she is a leading lady in the “live your best life” department, and I really respect her for that.  I get ideas frequently from her website and if I’m super bored, from her OWN Network.

Blissfully Happy in 2013 – Blissful?  We’ll see, but this article is a quick reminder about the importance of the little things, and also a link up to The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin, another interesting read!

How to Radiate Positivity – Getting too hokey for you yet?  Try hanging out with a bunch of negative people, then try spending time with a bunch of people who see the silver lining.  Your whole experience changes.  If you are sending out the positive vibes, the world starts to bend in your favor.  Just try it, jabroni!

7 Reason to be Happy, Even When Things Aren’t Perfect – And when will they ever be?  That’s right folks, nevah!  In the words of The Rolling Stones, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you’ll find, you get what you need.”  It’s ridiculously true.
